Photography – Going to the Dogs?

I tweeted recently about a touching photography story I ran across – about, of all things, how dog “glamour shots” are helping to raise rescue adoption rates. It’s such a simple thing, but as a dog owner myself, I thought it was worth mentioning to highlight how people all over are helping to make a real impact with images.

CBS News first did a segment on Dallas-based photographer Theresa Berg, who said she aims to change the grim images of animal adoption photos into something that a possible pet owner cannot refuse. According to Berg, she can’t stand the thought that, “for want of a good picture, a dog goes homeless.”

The result? Each and every one of the dogs she photographed got adopted in record time, and adoption rates at the rescue are up 100 percent. She now trains volunteers from other rescues, and is encouraging other professional photographers to donate their talents to the cause, saying, “If every photographer just took in one rescue group, we could save so many more dogs,” which equates to tens of thousands of lives.

Berg now offers “Focus on Rescue,” a free photo clinic for animal rescue volunteers where they’ll teach participants how to take better photos using the camera and equipment you already have – even if it’s just a cell phone! Get more information via the contact page of her website here.

Saw your posting on twitter. stopped by and so do agree, I am a dog cat owner lover of. And I also see the many posting on facebook friends and recuse site that I am a member of. If I could I would adopt more. My heart is larger then my pocket book. But as a kid growing up in the 50's the old tales of some of these breeds are just not so. And feel through pictures you learn so much
