Mobile Upload to Group Albums Launches Today

Upload to Group Albums from Your Mobile Phone

So this is cool. Imagine a Group Album for your vacation or travels. Or for any wanderings when you're out and about on the streets. Phone it into your Group Album!

Phone in a pic of a great pair of shoes you bought, a fabulous view you saw, someone's strange hair-do while you're commuting to work, the hot date you just met.

Click on the "Mobile Phone" button on the right of the Upload panel. You'll see the unique email address associated with the Group Album. Use that Group Album email address to phone your photo into the Album.

mobile upload

All the same rules apply about approval of the images by the Group Album administrator (if that option has been set).

And you don't have to phone it in.  This email address works from your normal email client too. Just attach the photo to the email and send it in!

By the way, this feature works for all albums on Photobucket, not just Group Albums. Personal ones too. If you want to learn more about how to upload from a mobile phone, read this Tutorial.

Search in Group Albums Launches Today

Since we launched Group Albums in May of this year, over one-hundred thousand Groups have been created on Photobucket, ranging from weddings and family gatherings, to special interests, charities and rock bands.

Group Albums on Photobucket allow multiple users to upload their photos and videos to one shared photo and video album, with an administrator of the Group providing optional review and approval functions.

Today we are adding a bunch of new features in Group Albums.

Here's a quick summary of the new features.

Search in Groups, Featured Albums, and Most Active Groups

Photobucket You can now search through all the public Groups, and see if there are groups that might interest you.

So search for things like "mullet" or "puppies" or whatever and see what you can find.

You can contribute your own photos and videos to any Group that's set as public.  The owner of the Group may have chosen to qualify your submission before it's visible to the world.

You can also click to see which Group Albums we are featuring today, which are the most active, the most recent, and those with the most individual contributors.

Categories in Group Albums Launch Today

Group Album Categories

Group Categories You can also search for Group Albums by category. When you make a Group, you have the choice of adding it to up to three categories.

Browse around categories that interest you and see what you can find.

If you want new categories added, write to us!

Vanity URLs for your Albums

Vanity URLs for Your Group Album and Personal Album

You probably already know this, but you can also make a "vanity URL" for your Group Album. So when you're inviting your friends, family or fans to your Group Album, you can hand out an easy-to-remember  URL.

This is not a new feature today -- we shipped this with Group Albums in May. We just want to remind you it's there!

This works for your personal Photobucket album too. There's a link in the upper left corner of your album to set your own URL:

Announcing Enhancements to Group Albums

Number One Photo and Video Sharing Site Photobucket Enhances Group Albums

Mobile Uploads and Comprehensive Search Functionality Now Available

Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com), the leading standalone photo and video-sharing site, today announced the addition of new features to the already popular Group Albums. Group Albums (http://photobucket.com/groupalbums) allow multiple users to upload their photos and videos to one shared photo and video album, with an administrator of the Group providing optional review and approval functions.

With this new release, users can add more detail to describe their group album and are now able to search all public Group Albums. In addition, each Group Album now has a unique email address, enabling users to upload photos directly from their mobile phones to the Group Album. Photobucket also highlights Group Albums with the most activity, contributors, and newest content, as well as Groups in categories such as Fashion, Schools, Music, Entertainment and more. These new features enhance the previous offerings of personalized vanity URLs, custom privacy settings, broad sharing capabilities and more.

Since its debut in May, over one-hundred thousand Group Albums have been created, ranging from weddings to family gatherings to rock bands. This popular feature helped drive record traffic to the site resulting in its largest traffic month ever in the U.S.  With more than 24 million unique visitors in June (according to comScore Media Metrix), Photobucket continues to be the No. 1 photo site in the U.S.

For one band, Forever the Sickest Kids (FTSK), their Group Album on Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/ftsk) now features over 4,100 images that have been uploaded by fans and Photobucket users around the world.  Lead singer Jonathan Cook says, “The Photobucket pictures that have been submitted by FTSK fans are so good that I have put my personal digital camera away and now rely on the posse to submit pics that I can show my family back at home from each city and use for my personal MySpace page! FTSK PWNS ALL!”

Other popular group albums include the Fotoflexer Image Editor’s Best Edited Images which include almost 2,000 photos that have been edited with Photobucket’s built-in, free editing tool powered by FotoFlexer.  (http://photobucket.com/fotoflexer). Users are encouraged to upload their favorite edited photos and images in the Fotoflexer Group Album provide an insight into how typical Photobucket users customize and personalize their photos and images on the site.

Thousands of new groups made on Photobucket

Since we launched Group Albums a month ago, literally thousands of groups have been made by Photobucket users.  What's a Group Album? It's an album where groups of people can contribute photos and videos to the same album -- great for events, interest groups, teams, schools, weddings -- wherever many people get together with many cameras.

Click here to read the original blog about Group Albums.

Check out some of the featured Group Albums on the main Group Albums page.

And here's a short list of some of our favorites that we've seen made over the past couple of weeks.

Try out Group Albums on Photobucket Today

We're pretty excited about this new feature we're launching today: Group Albums.

We've all seen this: multiple people at an event. Lots of cameras. You never get to see all the videos and photos everyone takes. How do you get together and share in one place?

For groups, teams, parties, graduations, weddings -- anytime people get together -- get the person in charge (there's always at least one!) to set up a Group Album on Photobucket.

Share Photos and Videos in One Album

The Group Album moderator (the person who started the Group Album) can invite you all to upload your photos and videos to that album. The moderator can choose to approve your submissions before they go live (or not), and can also choose to password protect the Group Album (or not). It's up to you.

Add a "Vanity" URL for Your Album

And for that final personal touch, add a vanity URL, such as http://photobucket.com/smithfamilyreunion. Put the URL on your party invites or on your wedding table placesettings!

It's all there on Photobucket today, and it's all free! Have fun!

Get Started

To set up your own group album, go here:  http://photobucket.com/groupalbums.

We Will Feature Your Group Album

And if you're ready proud of your album, click on the "Feature This Group Album" on the page at http://photobucket.com/groupalbums, and we'll review it. If it's cool, we'll add it to the Group Album Home page.

Photobucket LAUNCHES Group Albums

New Group Albums Allow Multiple People to Easily Contribute to, View and Share Photos and Videos All in One Place

New Feature Sponsored by Sony; Also Hosts Wedding-Themed Group Album

SAN FRANCISCO, May 14, 2008 – Leading photo and video-sharing site Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com) today announced the launch of Group Albums, giving people an entirely new way to create and share photos and video collections. Group Albums provide multiple users with an easy way to store, share and view digital media – including photos and videos – in one convenient profile on the popular Photobucket site. Sony is the exclusive launch sponsor of the Group Albums feature.

“Photobucket is already a place where millions of people record their lives, and there are so many important occasions that we share with others – from weddings to sporting events, graduations, concerts – you name it,” said Alex Welch, president, Photobucket. “Somehow with all the convenience of digital photos, it still proved complicated for people to share photos and video of a single event in one place, so we made it our goal to fix that.”

Welch continued: “Group Albums are designed to offer a simple way for colleagues, friends and families to collaborate on creating photos and video collections where the entire group can contribute, access and enjoy them.”

After creating a Group Album on the Photobucket site, Group Album owners can invite other members and choose whether to password-protect the albums, as well as having the option to moderate each group if desired. Owners can also give Group Albums easy-to-remember “vanity” URLs, such as http://photobucket.com/smithwedding.

Members of Group Albums can transfer photos, images and videos from their other Photobucket albums, from Web URLs and from their camera’s Flash memory or computer’s hard drive. As with all Photobucket content, media in Group Albums can be posted on blogs, social networking profiles and all kinds of Web sites. Users can also share Group Albums content by sending links in email or instant messages.
