Getting to Know the All-New Photobucket Mobile App for Android: Auto Backup

Don’t have the app? Get it!

AUTO BACKUP

Our new Auto Backup feature makes securing your mobile photos a breeze. Auto Backup will automatically upload each new photo you take to a new album in your Photobucket library. The album will be private by default, so nobody else can see your images.

To enable auto backup, first tap the Photobucket icon in the top left corner of the screen. This will open up your menu. Now tap Backup.

Tapping Get Started will immediately begin the backup process.

This will begin uploading all photos and videos on your phone into the album Mobile Uploads, in your Photobucket account.

Instead of uploading all your stored photos into one album, the Photobucket app will conveniently sort your photos into new albums by year/month.

ADJUSTING BACKUP SETTINGS

You can always turn Auto Backup on/off, or adjust when you’d like to automatically backup your photos – either only when connected to wifi, or over the air (using your data plan).

First, open up your menu by tapping the Photobucket icon in the top left corner of the screen. Tap settings.

Now tap Auto Backup.

Screenshot_2013-11-08-08-49-57.png

Tap Auto Backup to turn backup on/off.

Screenshot_2013-11-08-08-50-31.png

Once Auto Backup has been enabled, tap Wi-Fi Only to allow backup only over a wifi network (this option will not use your data plan and only begin backing up your photos once connected to a wifi network).

Unchecking this option allows the app to backup your images at any time (this option will use your data plan if not connected to a wifi network).

Please note - uninstalling and reinstalling the Photobucket app will cause auto backup to begin uploading all photos on your phone, regardless of whether they have already been uploaded previously.

Does it upload in FULL resolution?

Does it backup video and/or in full size?

If all my photos are backed up on the app, and I delete them off my phone..do they stay uploaded in the app so I can view them on a PC from my account?? Or do they delete off my account if I delete them off my phone?

      Hello Misty,

Photos that are uploaded to your Photobucket account will remain there even if you delete the photos off your phone. The only way your Photobucket photos will be deleted is if you sign in to your Photobucket account and delete them there.

      Good Morning,

You can manually add the photos you wish to backup to your Photobucket account via the app. Navigate to the “+” symbol in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, then select “upload”. You can then select the multiple photos you wish to backup.

Question: I have over 1000 pictures of my son. From birth to now and it is using all of the storage in my phone. If I upload them to photobucket, am I safe to delete them off my phone? I’m terrified I will loose them!! Thanks!!

      Hello Paige,

Your photos will be safely stored on Photobucket as long as they are uploaded properly. Please make sure that all of your photos have been uploaded properly (look at the image count) and not to delete any photos off of your phone until the upload is 100% complete.

Hello I just downloaded the app and it did great at uploading my pictures. Problem is I can only see the recent pictures album (I have an iPhone 6) but I’m not able to access older pictures to upload since the album doesn’t show. How can I do this

Is there anyway to stop it from uploading videos? The app wants to auto upload the movies/TV shows which can be 1 to 15 GB or more sometimes, Obviously I don’t want them to auto upload.

      Hello Mike,

The auto backup feature automatically backs up photos and videos. To prevent that, you would need to turn off auto back up, and manually upload the photos you wish to add.

      Hello Nani,

The auto backup should safely and securely upload your videos. However, if you had a poor internet connection or if the video was too long, the upload may have timed out. Please contact our support team at http://bit.ly/1u49uw3 so that we can further assist you. Thank you.

What happes to my pics if I am over the 10gb. It says I’m 200% over my 10gb. Do my pics delete to make room for more? My phone backs up automatically. Im afraid my pics and videos are being deleted as my phone automatically backs up. Is photobucket back up similar to saving my photos to my laptop or computer?

      Hello Leslie,

Photobucket is similar to saving photos to your computer in that they are “backed up”. The difference is that your photos will stay safe on Photobucket if something happens to your computer or phone. We do have different pricing options for getting more storage. You can view them here: http://photobucket.com/pricing

Why does the app only “auto backup” if I have the app open and my screen on? This isn’t very “automatic”

      Hello Marissa,

The auto backup feature currently only runs in the background on Android devices. So if you are on iOS, the app will need to be active for your photos to backup. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you!

      Hello Andree,

You can manually upload photos to your Photobucket on your mobile device. Just go to your home screen and look for the “+” icon. Click on that, and then select “upload”. You can then select as many photos at once as you’d like from your Camera Roll.

When I run the android photobucket app it gets stuck with the spinner and message “Fetching gallery media…”… forever, or at least for hours. I can’t upload any pictures or do anything. The “CANCEL” does nothing. I can only hit the home button on my phone to get out of it. FWIW, my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S III

PB keeps backing up/uploading the same picture over and over. Everytime i open it. It starts again. Keep deleting and have autobackup turned off. If i delete the original upload will it stop? And its happening to others but has stopped on those. But keeps doing it the the same pic. I dont like PB to be eating up my data usage.

      Hello,

The auto upload feature currently uploads both videos and photos, so if you would only like to upload photos, you would have to change your upload settings to manual.

I want to auto backup a specific folder. I have some very sensitive financial data in my main photo folder sometimes and don’t want that to be anywhere on the web. Is there a way to automatically backup a specific folder, say “funnies” folder instead of default camera folder, ie “DCIM”?

      Hello Sharon,

With the current version of the “Auto Backup” feature, you will not be able to automatically back up specific folders. With the current feature, you would need to manually select the photos you wish to backup to your Photobucket account if you do not wish for everything to be uploaded.

Is there a way to get photos back to your camera role after you store them on the app? So If you wanted to text them or upload them to Facebook you could? Or do they have to stay on the app?

      Hello Jennifer,

You can just open the album that you would like to take photos from, then select the download icon (the cloud with an arrow ) from the bottom action bar and select the album on your phone that you would like those photos to download to.

      Hello Alexis,

To get your photos off of your Photobucket account and onto your mobile device you will need to log on to your Photobucket account via a desktop computer, locate the album that has the photos you wish to retrieve and select “download album” under the “options” section to the right of your album. Once you have downloaded the album to your desktop, you can plug your phone into the computer and drag-and-drop the album onto your phone.
