Lately, it seems like the mobile devices are taking over the internet. I have even seen times where a mobile device was the ONLY way to make use of (whatever). I would like to use the GIF maker but all I own is a laptop. Is there a version of the GIF maker that can be used on my laptop?

      Hello Kevin,

At this time we do not have plans to create a web version. However, if there is a high level of interest we will definitely look into it!

      Thank you for your feedback.

A web-based program can be used by any device, including phones.
A phone app can only be used by phones.

It would seem silly to ever create an app when a web-based program is possible.

Count me in for a Windows version of the GIF maker. I do all my work on a Windows PC (both for work and for fun). I use my smartphone mainly to make phone calls, and to occasionally browse the internet, …. not to create stuff. I take hundreds of photos, but not with my smartphone. I use a digital camera for all my photography, and then transfer my photos to my PC for processing.

Have been creating animated GIFs for over 15 years with a Micrografx piece of software called Windows Draw-6. It won’t run properly on anything newer than Windows XP. Must have created hundreds of GIFs in those 15 years and Its is invaluable to me so It was worth every penny I spent on the Windows Draw application.

Why ruin one’s eyesight looking at a smartphone when one can have the luxury of seeing real size images and text on a 19 inch monitor? Besides why pay for two internet connections when I need a propper broadband connection?

I have an LG smart phone on EE, which I use very infrequently. Being the worlds oldest man I try to keep uptodate with new technologies and will avoid using my phone for internet like the plague which incedently nearly cost me my life several hundred years ago. In those days the nearest thing to the internet was semaphore flags.

What a stupid idea to make this mobile phone only. I live in the country where cell coverage is sketchy at best therefore mobile phones will never be more than an outlet for safety while driving. How anyone can do creative work on teeny tiny phones is a mystery to me. I am vision impaired and need my big screen monitor. I really hate how Photobucket caters to every new whim. I also hate the new changes that were made a while back where I lost my themes for each album. I am a paid subscriber and not at all happy with the new design.

It would make sense to release a standard (web) service first. It would seem like a “mobile” (i.e. phone-ready) version of it would be of second priority.

I still think about the movement from GIF to PNG, started in the mid-90s since Unisys was making noise about any software or formats which used LZW.
Did that all in fact become primarily moot; since the GIF/LZW patents expired in 2004 ?

The animated PNG equivalent, APNG has not been widely supported in these browser platforms. See http://caniuse.com/apng
But it seems like it created as many problems as it solved, in terms of deploying this new content and have it smoothly work with older browser technology.
So, perhaps animated GIFs have rightly shown themselves again to be highly useful for use on the web.

that. It is a tool made for voice communications,
not a toy to play with.

Having been in the technical field of wireless
communications for many years I have found
that the use of a small telephone for uses other
than voice communications is a very bad habit,

Always develop for desktops first, and only then,

I too vote for a desktop web version. Even if my smartphone did have a galaxy-sized screen, image manipulation is just so much easier with a mouse or wacom tablet.

Agree with most of the sentiments here. Why do I want to peer into a small screen and work my thumb to the bone when I have a TV screen and a sensible keyboard to comfortably use?

I vote for a desktop web version as well ! I don’t want to be working from a small screen version of a program when I can work from a large screen version. Plus I don’t use small screens anyways I only use my desktop for graphic applications.

There seems to be an overwhelming response in favor of a Photobucket GIF Maker available on our website. You’ve spoken, and we’ve listened: we are considering the possibility of adding a GIF Maker to our site.

We would love to get your feedback on the availability of GIF Maker for the web. If you have just a couple minutes, responding to our survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HK6SCFL will help us to better understand the needs and wants of the Photobucket community.

I can’t see taking forever to make a gif on my mobile, but I’d forever be making them on my lappy
