Lately, it seems like the mobile devices are taking over the internet. I have even seen times where a mobile device was the ONLY way to make use of (whatever). I would like to use the GIF maker but all I own is a laptop. Is there a version of the GIF maker that can be used on my laptop?

      Hello Kevin,

At this time we do not have plans to create a web version. However, if there is a high level of interest we will definitely look into it!

      Thank you for your feedback.

      • Gerda
        June 26, 2014

        Interest here, too.

Another request here. I find phones more useful for consuming than for creating.

        June 28, 2014

Me too! I was very disappointed to find I had to have some sort of mobile devise in order to have some fun. exclusive.

Yes, please. I much rather like working on my PC then on my phone.

        June 28, 2014

Another vote for the web version. Getting older it’s harder and harder to see the little screen on these new phones.

      • Greg
        June 28, 2014

A web-based program can be used by any device, including phones.
A phone app can only be used by phones.

It would seem silly to ever create an app when a web-based program is possible.

I’m also interested in a GIF maker that I can use on my desk top computer.

        interest here also !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Emilio Trampuz
        June 29, 2014

Count me in for a Windows version of the GIF maker. I do all my work on a Windows PC (both for work and for fun). I use my smartphone mainly to make phone calls, and to occasionally browse the internet, …. not to create stuff. I take hundreds of photos, but not with my smartphone. I use a digital camera for all my photography, and then transfer my photos to my PC for processing.

        June 26, 2014

Count this as another vote in favor of a non-smartphone version! I can see lots of uses for this product/option/ability, but I neither own nor want a smartphone.

    June 27, 2014

I have a smart phone but hate to use it for anything if I can avoid it, as it is too small
to work with in creating stuff with apps. Please consider the desktop version of the Gif maker.

  5. Bani
    June 27, 2014

GIF and JIF are both correct pronunciations. How the G in the first word is pronounced has no bearing on how the acronym should be pronounced. Stop fueling the age-old argument.

Another vote here for the web version.

    • The Immortal One
      June 28, 2014

Have been creating animated GIFs for over 15 years with a Micrografx piece of software called Windows Draw-6. It won’t run properly on anything newer than Windows XP. Must have created hundreds of GIFs in those 15 years and Its is invaluable to me so It was worth every penny I spent on the Windows Draw application.

Why ruin one’s eyesight looking at a smartphone when one can have the luxury of seeing real size images and text on a 19 inch monitor? Besides why pay for two internet connections when I need a propper broadband connection?

I have an LG smart phone on EE, which I use very infrequently. Being the worlds oldest man I try to keep uptodate with new technologies and will avoid using my phone for internet like the plague which incedently nearly cost me my life several hundred years ago. In those days the nearest thing to the internet was semaphore flags.

  9. Carolyn
    June 27, 2014

Here is yet another vote for the web version or some form of a home version. We don’t have cell phones that do apps and have not plans to get any. Yoiu are leaving out a large population and probably a lot of seniors like me. I am very computer literate, have been computing, building websites (no longer any online), creating graphics, and editing and restoring photos. Age: 73 1/2 female

  10. casey
    June 27, 2014

i want a web version along with the mobile version. there are other sites i use on the web now, but then i have to transfer them to PB anyway. it would be much easier to have it all in one place. and when i’m on my phone, i don’t always have the time or battery life to play around with things.

Web Web Web please Mr Wilhite

If you’re all so desperate for a gifmaker that works on a tradional computer why not go google the term “gif maker” and grab something that will do it? took me longer to write this then it did to find one, gees

    • Sandra
      June 27, 2014

yet another vote for the web version

    • Cory Kent
      June 27, 2014

  23. John
    June 27, 2014

I too would like a desktop / laptop version.
Like Carolyn, I’m 68 and have been around computers since 1981.
But the smartphone screen is just too small for me.

As a user of Photobucket for over a decade, I was excited to see this new app. I too would like to have an app for Laptop use. Not everyone has the ability to use a Mobile device for anything other than making calls or texting.

Web version vote here as well. Phones for on the go business, not for sitting around creating fun stuff.

  32. Jon
    June 28, 2014

Why is there no web version already? I expected to scroll down and find one, or is this a clever marketing ploy to see how many people follow the leader…

  33. Gene
    June 28, 2014

    I’m for a web version

  34. Jay
    June 28, 2014

A web or desktop version for sure!
Developing stuff ON a phone seems so cumbersome . . .
USING apps on the phone is another story.
Count me IN for a web or desktop (Mac) version.

  47. Judy Handel
    June 28, 2014

Yadda yadda,,,i read your whole page and i STILL don’t know why i should care how it’s pronounced….. What a waste of time!

  48. Douglas Allen Fraser
    June 28, 2014

The ability to create on the PC/Mac and then go to a mobile version in an app would be great. Creation on the fly is usually difficult on a IPhone or Android.
As it seems by all the comments.

  49. LaBonBon
    June 28, 2014

What a stupid idea to make this mobile phone only. I live in the country where cell coverage is sketchy at best therefore mobile phones will never be more than an outlet for safety while driving. How anyone can do creative work on teeny tiny phones is a mystery to me. I am vision impaired and need my big screen monitor. I really hate how Photobucket caters to every new whim. I also hate the new changes that were made a while back where I lost my themes for each album. I am a paid subscriber and not at all happy with the new design.

  50. shaun
    June 28, 2014

i would like a web version as well. much bigger and easier to see.

  51. motorclaimguru
    June 28, 2014

I cannot see the logic in “not” have a web based version??? I would not use your app on my phone , as I am way to busy to be faffing round with it.But when I am making amendments to my website, it would be great to create gifs at the same time, and also to use in my promotional stuff.

  52. George Steiner
    June 28, 2014

    Yip – web version please

  53. Lisa Rae
    June 28, 2014

Was really disappointed to see it was only for smartphones. I think it should be for both web and phone. I can’t stand creating on a tiny screen. Aggravating!

  54. Bill
    June 28, 2014

Would love a web version, definitely will NOT use a smartphone.

  55. LarryC
    June 28, 2014

It would make sense to release a standard (web) service first. It would seem like a “mobile” (i.e. phone-ready) version of it would be of second priority.

I still think about the movement from GIF to PNG, started in the mid-90s since Unisys was making noise about any software or formats which used LZW.
Did that all in fact become primarily moot; since the GIF/LZW patents expired in 2004 ?

The animated PNG equivalent, APNG has not been widely supported in these browser platforms. See
But it seems like it created as many problems as it solved, in terms of deploying this new content and have it smoothly work with older browser technology.
So, perhaps animated GIFs have rightly shown themselves again to be highly useful for use on the web.

  56. Ashley
    June 28, 2014

I don’t use a smartphone. It’s kind of disheartening that everything is focused towards them nowadays.

So, yeah, another vote for a web version of this.

  57. Dee
    June 28, 2014

    I love my Smartphone
(iPhone 5) but consider this as being interested in having the non-smartphone version because you could see what you are doing better due to a larger screen! Thank you!

  58. George
    June 28, 2014

    Web version for me too.

  59. Orlaco
    June 28, 2014

It’s ABSOLUTELY CRAZY not to have the web version FIRST.

Like many (if not most) people I own both a computer and a smart phone…..but prefer to do things like this from the comfort and ease of my computer.

A little off-topic….while I love my smart phone because it ALWAYS with me and can do a lot things a computer can do….. ….it’s still really a pain in the arse.

  60. Arnie
    June 28, 2014

If I am doing design work, I do it on the computer, not on a phone…..
    WEB version PLEASE..

Vote for web version here –

  65. Tiffany
    June 28, 2014

I’d like a web version simply because versatility is always better. Like how I like to have a chat program that works on my computer AND my phone (e.g. Hangouts, LINE, AIM, etc.)!

  66. Ashley
    June 28, 2014

I definitely vote for a web version. Thanks!

  67. Cherry
    June 28, 2014

  68. ellie
    June 28, 2014

I’m going with the majority here a lot of people don’t have the luxury of smartphones so why narrow your app to them your loosing lots of good customers by offering it to only that clientel

  69. ellie
    June 28, 2014

Why limit your aop to only smartphone owners everyone doesn’t have the luxury of owning one your loosing a lot of good and interested customers by doing this…

  70. Craig

I felt enticed to sign in after quit a while only to find that there is no GIF maker for a real computer user. It would be a nice addition to the website.

  71. ken
    June 29, 2014

    i vote for web version!

  72. Dave
    June 29, 2014

Web version! For myself, a phone is just
that. It is a tool made for voice communications,
not a toy to play with.

Having been in the technical field of wireless
communications for many years I have found
that the use of a small telephone for uses other
than voice communications is a very bad habit,
and has also caused more harm than good.

Always develop for desktops first, and only then,
if there is still an interest in a development for
portable devices, develop one for those.

  73. Dave P.
    June 29, 2014

Add another vote for a web version. I could use my phone if I absolutely had to, but I’d much rather use a real computer.

  76. Deana

  77. Trevor
    June 29, 2014

Guess this gives me a reason to create a web based version then..! and i will reap the rewards.

  78. John
    June 29, 2014

Web version please…not everyone has the eyes of a 14 yr old. Only pretty callous people think “I have no trouble seeing a miniature screen, so screw everyone else”. Details are much easier to see (and produce), on a large monitor.

  79. Rick Stout
    June 29, 2014

Goodness, the 1% that doesn’t have data. This is a simple program for those that do photos mobile. I am sure there is freeware that will do this on our laptop or desktops. Does Photoshop or Illustrator do this?

  80. Mark

I have the latest greatest Smartphone an Iphone. I have man sized fingers so I would prefer something I can use on my laptop also.

A web based version would be wonderful. Not all of us even have a smart phone.

  86. Pete Klinger
    July 2, 2014

Web version or PC version, that’s where the files are and I have the most processing power. AVI to GIF converter would be super!

  87. Walter Matera
    July 2, 2014

Well, Photobucket? I would say that the response for a web based gif maker is overwhelming. So get to freaking work! Smart phones are very useful tools but to try and compose a presentation? Ridiculous! Real people do their work on desk tops or lap tops. Kiddies try to get by with a smart phone.

  88. Sally
    July 3, 2014

Anything I do on a computer I can do better and faster on a laptop or desktop except carry it around.

  89. Tanya
    July 4, 2014

Would like to continue the long scrolling sentiment of a web based option for the GIFs. I haven’t used photo bucket in ages, but if they had a handy GIF maker it would likely be my go to site in the future. VOTE YES WEB VERSION! (Please 😉

  90. Cindy
    July 5, 2014

Why no reply yet from Photobucket about this overwhelming response? Hello-o-o? Are you listening? I love my super fast and cool LG for all kinds of things, but not for working with photos. Another vote for web.

    • Hannah Moorhead
      July 7, 2014

      Hello Cindy,

We are here! Taking in all of the feedback. We have several big projects in process and exciting new features coming soon, but are not disregarding a PC version… Stay tuned!

  91. Indie
    July 5, 2014

Yes, please create a GIF maker for computers. I severely dislike cell phones so I don’t own one. Too many phone apps don’t include a pc version. This would rock!

  92. Marty
    July 7, 2014

Web version, please! For my Mac!

  93. Cammi
    July 8, 2014

I too vote for a desktop web version. Even if my smartphone did have a galaxy-sized screen, image manipulation is just so much easier with a mouse or wacom tablet.

  94. Richard
    July 19, 2014

Agree with most of the sentiments here. Why do I want to peer into a small screen and work my thumb to the bone when I have a TV screen and a sensible keyboard to comfortably use?

  95. Mrs. Matthews
    July 27, 2014

VOTE YESSSSSSSSSSSSS, count my vote in for a desktop computer gif maker program! I would use it every day to make gifs for my web sets that I create!

  96. C.A. Young
    July 27, 2014

I vote for a desktop web version as well ! I don’t want to be working from a small screen version of a program when I can work from a large screen version. Plus I don’t use small screens anyways I only use my desktop for graphic applications.

  97. Tyghe
    July 28, 2014

There seems to be an overwhelming response in favor of a Photobucket GIF Maker available on our website. You’ve spoken, and we’ve listened: we are considering the possibility of adding a GIF Maker to our site.

We would love to get your feedback on the availability of GIF Maker for the web. If you have just a couple minutes, responding to our survey at will help us to better understand the needs and wants of the Photobucket community.
