It’s now easier than ever to create your own animated GIFs directly from your iPhone or Android device. This overview is intended to get you up to looped in on how to use the Photobucket Gif Maker, available on Android and iOS.

GIF = Graphics Interchange Format. Basically a short, looping, often hilarious, video.

Tap on the menu button and select GIF Maker, or tap on the + button on the Home Screen.

Make your GIF

Shoot a video or several single frames to make a GIF.

Tap the shutter button in Video or Single frame mode.

Grab up to 60 images from your Camera Roll or Photobucket account. Just tap on the thumbnail button in the lower left corner.

Tap on Next.

Edit your GIF

You can change the speed of the GIF, and change whether it loops forward, in reverse, or Yoyo.

Remove single frames by tapping on the image and then on the x. Tap Save and you’re done! The GIF will begin uploading and you’ll be able to share it for everyone to see!

GIF Upload Settings

After you create your first GIF, you’ll be asked to save your GIF Upload Settings. All created GIFs will be saved in an album titled “Your GIFs”.

In your GIF Upload Settings, you can choose to make your GIF album private or public, and whether to share your GIFs with Photobucket with the #pbGIFs hashtag.

OK, dumb arse me needs to know what a GIF is, what does it do, why would I want to do whatever it does? Maybe I missed something.

      Hello don,
A GIF, to put it simply, is a live photo. I’m not sure what “GIF” stands for but I have another app that came with my phone that automatically makes a GIF if my camera is set to “Burst Shot”, which means if I long press the “Snap Photo” button it will take 10 fps (frames per second) for example. It’s pretty cool, but it won’t let me share it so I’m happy that PHOTOBUCKET has added this!
*eg; My cat makes the cutest, funny faces after she eats, when she licks her lips and then yawns, but in order to catch it in a photo I had to take a burst shot. I got a lot of funny still pics but when I saw it in motion, as a GIF, it was hilarious to watch!
I’m sorry I couldn’t explain it better, or shorter, but I hope this helps some. Give it a try! Whether you shoot animals, people, the weather or whatever it is that you want to capture, it will make your photo’s come alive. Hope you try it and enjoy it. Happy shooting =)

        Sara – Nicely explained!

        Hi Sara…

technically a gif is an animated image, the term gif means “Graphics Interchange File” to make a gif, one simply take several pictures, and then orders them, in a certain time (ex. your burst shoot function takes 10 pictures per second, so for taking a minute of cat enjoying food it means 600 pictures are compressed into one photo, each taking a 10th of a sec to appear on screen)

also, don, you’d like to do it to show something cute or beautiful, where the beauty comes with movement…

I always liked photobucket, but it’s not fair that it only works on
two cell phones. I’m not buying one just so I can make animated
gifs. so not fair. I am sick of business’s that force you to do something
or you can’t do anything. I don’t like being pushed into a corner, I fight back.

Gina, nobody is forcing you to do anything you do not want to do.This is the way it is set up,nobody is pushing you into a corner, there are plenty of apps. out there for everyone.
        Calm down

I don’t get it. You complain that there is a product for a platform that you do not have. Do you also go into greengrocers complaining that they sell bananas, which you don’t like? Or do you write to your local railways complaining about delays of trains that you don’t take?
Do you have any idea how pedantic that is?
And in case not, V_E_R_Y Pedantic indeed.

Totally agree. I have a phone on which I make, amazingly, ‘phone calls. All the other ‘gubbins’ are neither asked for nor required!

    June 28, 2014

Yes a PC version makes a lot of sense – you can grab a whole lot of images way easier than on any phone and see them better 🙂 PC version please!

Not being a mobile phone user.I too await this for my PC, to give it a go,
As I already have a GIF animator I can open GIFs and see the frame delay, so …
WHEN are we going to get an industry standard for GIF speeds ?
I ask because with many GIFs, the SAME GIF runs fast on one application, slow on another and inbetween on another !!!

      Hello Soren,

The GIF Maker is currently only available on iOS and Android devices. At this time we do not have plans to create a web version. However, if there is a high level of interest, we will definitely look into it!

I don’t normally shoot pics with my camera in my Android. I use a Nikon DSLR with hone. A PC VERSION would be of GREAT INTEREST TO me, and many other DSLR users. I won’t run down camera pones, but I prefer a higher megapixel count and flexibility of use of different lenses and filters….
