Holiday survey reveals majority of consumers will actively upload and share their photos and video online; Photobucket offers tips to simplify saving and circulating these precious memories
Denver, CO – December 9, 2010 – Photobucket Corporation, the world’s leading dedicated photo and video sharing service, today announced the results from a company-sponsored Holiday Photo Usage Survey conducted in November 2010. The nearly 3,000 respondents helped to illustrate the current attitudes and habits of those planning to capture photo and video this holiday season. Among the findings were that moms are mostly responsible for capturing the family’s moments with digital cameras and phones, and most respondents indicated a need for better organization of their online image and video files.
“With the advent of smartphones and other digital devices, it’s easier than ever to capture and share those special moments – now and throughout the year,” said Tom Munro, CEO of Photobucket. “And because of that we’re also seeing a trend in people using online photo services to gather their photos, edit them for personal expression and then share to multiple places. Our users alone upload over four million photos per day and share to over two million online destinations per day
Holiday Memories Have Gone Digital
According to the survey, 82 percent of respondents intend to capture their holiday memories with a digital camera, while a significant number (27%) intend to use a phone/smartphone camera. Both were much higher than those planning to use professional photography (11%) or video (14%).
Fifty-eight percent of those surveyed will then upload their files to an online photo site where they will then view, edit and manage images via the Web. Respondents also, overwhelmingly, intend to share all those captured memories online using a variety of vehicles: Social media sites (57%), online photo sharing sites (49%) and email (46%); all higher than those planning to print and mail pictures (27%).
Also, not surprisingly, one-third of respondents indicated that the responsibility for documenting the majority of holiday moments falls to Mom, with other family members (20%), child/children (18%) and Dad (17%) all playing a smaller role in capturing the cheer.
Lots of Activity, but Lack of Centralized Organization with Photos/Video
Survey respondents showed that they were eager to store and share their newly-taken photos and videos, but many seem confused about the best way in which to proceed when it comes to organizing their ever-growing number of files.
While 87 percent said they use an online photo sharing site at least occasionally, respondents clearly showed a lack of clear direction in their photo-filing behavior. This is highlighted by the fact that the majority of those surveyed (53%) upload personal pictures to more than three different online photo storage sites.
Photobucket’s Tips on Organizing Your Holiday Memories
As the world’s leading dedicated photo and video sharing service, Photobucket is committed to helping consumers to gather, personalize, share and keep their photos and videos – all in one place, which is why the company offers some quick tips on better managing memories. Taking a few simple actions now will help consumers organize their photo and video collections before the influx of holiday photos. Consumers should select a method that works for their style, build a routine, and commit to following it.
Below are five tips to help everyone get started:
1. Get in the habit of transferring your pictures from your camera to your computer as soon as you can. You can even consider using an smartphone application or wi-fi enabled camera to eliminate that step and have images automatically uploaded to an online photo site.
2. Create a well-organized system on your hard disk. Pictures can be saved to folders based on dates, places, people, events, etc. As soon as you put your pictures on your computer file them appropriately.
3. Back-up your pictures to an online photo/video site. Then, if your computer crashes or you spill egg nog onto your laptop, you will still have access to your files.
4. Take advantage of the features offered and edit or personalize your photos, as needed. Resize or crop, fix red eyes or smooth wrinkles, apply color effects, decorate with stickers, and add text or a boarder.
5. Share your photo albums with friends and family directly from the photo and video sharing site using email or social media sites. You can also easily share to your preferred social media sites directly from Photobucket – but remember to “tag” your family and friends responsibly.

I do something with my life, but still find time to enjoy bacon twice a month. All the bacon haerts with their tell everyone how to run their lives agendas and self-induced bacon denial masochism can go back to their ineffective lives and dream more of forcing others to think as they do-eliminating the temptation of bacon because they lack the control over their own bacon desires and project that weakness upon the rest of us.However, other ignorant comments here show the need for a Bacon Summit where Americans and Canadians get together to standardize and understand our respective bacon cultures. Our peoples are not that different-we all understand the importance of that magical creature from which bacon is derived. Political power mongering from our leadership and differences in brand names must be swept aside for the greater sizzling good. And together, we must stand against those who hate the bacon, who hide their intolerance behind science' and religion', using their health care mandates to enforce their unnatural animosity. Peace thru Pork! Better living thru Bacon!
